Supermarket's backing leads to grand total

Alnwick's Morrisons store has helped the town's Multi-Agency Crime Prevention Initiative (MACPI) raise more than £1,000 in the past year.

This money is now being distributed as grants to assist local projects designed to steer young people away from crime, drugs and alcohol.

A recent bag-packing day at Morrisons, kindly arranged by manager Dave Beaney, added more than £450 to the total.

All the monies raised by MACPI go to community-based organisations, one-off projects and sports clubs together with programmes organised by churches to fund projects in Alnwick that provide diversionary activities which accord with MACPI’s aims.

On receiving the cheque at the supermarket, MACPI chairman, Hon Alderman David Archer, said: “Over the years, Morrisons have been more than generous with their assistance in fund-raising for MACPI and the latest contribution would not have been possible without the help of Dave Beaney and his colleagues.

“Together with other local businesses and patrons, they provide the funding which is so vital in assisting local projects.”
