Super slimmer Gareth is named Man of the Year

Gareth Williams has lost 2st 7lbs and has been named Alnwick’s Slimming World Man of the Year 2016.

He could now go through to the semi-finals of the national Slimming World Man of the Year contest, which will be held at Slimming World’s head office in Alfreton, Derbyshire, in July.

The overall winner will take home a luxury holiday in Chicago or £3,000 cash.

Gareth decided to give Slimming World a try to support his daughters on their own weight-loss journey, soon after his son joined.

After walking through the doors, he was pleasantly surprised to find that the support provided by the group was practical and the camaraderie and sense of competition appealed to him. He also enjoyed following the eating plan. Gareth said: “It was nerve-wracking walking through those doors for the first time, but I wasn’t the only man there. Everyone was so supportive and I look forward to the sessions.

“I didn’t know what my mates would think about me attending Slimming World, but they’ve been right behind it.

“Once they realised I could still have a beer they started to take an interest and when they see me eating things like steak and homemade chips, chicken curry or a roast dinner they always ask how it’s possible to eat like that and still lose weight.

“But what really had them sitting up and paying attention was how well I was losing weight.”

Rachael Bewley, who runs the Alnwick Slimming World group is incredibly proud of Gareth. She said: “He has done brilliantly and we’re all amazed by his transformation. He’s a real inspiration to the group.”
