Sunflower Challenge winners announced

How does your garden grow? Absolutely massive, if these blooms are anything to go by.

Frances and Catherine Molineux have taken first place in the Gazette’s annual Sunflower Challenge, run with Alnwick in Bloom. Their sunflowers, at Church Terrace, Shilbottle, reached a towering 10ft 5in.

Second was Isaac Atkinson, 9ft 10.5in, at High Cottages, Wooperton; third Carly Hope, 9ft 10in, Swarland Terrace, Red Row; and runners-up Reece Hope, 9ft 8in, Swarland Terrace, Red Row; Eleanor Baker, 8ft 11in, at Alnwick Way, Amble; and Indira and Amalia Baker, 8ft 10.5in, at Dunstan.
