More than £1,200 has been raised by Amble First School for Cancer Research UK.

The whole school, including staff, took part in a recent Race for Life event.

Pupils ran up to 5km in recognition of people that had been special to them in their lives and the staff ran in memory of Mrs Alice Bell, a lifelong friend of the school.

Edwin Street Nursery held a separate event on the same day for the youngest pupils, who ran laps of the school yard instead.

Further donations are expected, so the total amount of money collected is set to rise further still. Cancer Research UK pioneers research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
