STRIKE: A call-out to miners' wives

This is a call-out for a photo and audio project focusing on miners' wives who came out in support of their striking husbands through '˜Women Again Pit Closures' during the 1984-85 miners' strike.

The project will look at those who went into politics or continued the fight against social injustice instead of returning to their previous role of housewives, recording their accounts and photographing each person standing outside their open front door, symbolising opening the door to change and allowing it into their lives after the strike ended.

I believe the accounts of the women involved in strike are important and need to be preserved for future generations to hear and remember our industrial heritage.

I have recorded one story so far of Sian James, from South Wales, but am looking for others to share theirs.

Anyone wanting to share their experiences of the strike is asked to contact me through the project’s website at www.itsasalfordthing.co.uk/pit-house-to-politics/ or call 07898 272740.
