The road through Denwick will be closed next week for resurfacing works – but it could mean an increase of HGVs passing through Lesbury.
The stretch of the B1340 is set to be shut from Monday to Friday, December 1, from 7am to 4pm.
Access will be maintained for residents and diversions will be via the B6346, A1068, B1339 an C80.
A county council spokesman said: “Both nearby quarries (Tarmac Howick and KWP) have been informed of the works.
“This will mean that the quarry traffic will most likely have to come through Lesbury as that is the safest and most efficient diversion route for this closure.
“No-waiting cones will be laid out on the bends near the post office to stop vehicles parking, to ensure there is enough space for passing vehicles.
“We are scheduled to come to Lesbury in January 2018 to carry out drainage repairs and resurfacing work.”
