STONE: Perhaps it is safe after all
Further to my previous letters about the Duchess's insignia stone, a little spark of information has emerged.
A resident of Alwynside, which overlooks the site of the old Duchess’s School, has contacted me to let me know that he watched as they demolished that gable end and the insignia or crest stone was removed carefully.
But its whereabouts remain unknown.
Hopefully, the castle has taken it into safe-keeping.
The question of why it wasn’t included in the new Duchess’s High School still remains unclear.
