THERE’S still time to get your entries in for this year’s Sunflower Competition.
Monster blooms are starting to rear their heads across north Northumberland and if you are under 16 and have grown yours from scratch then you could be in with a chance of being crowned the Gazette’s sunflower champion of the year.
The competition is run in conjunction with Alnwick in Bloom and aims to get youngsters into gardening and growing.
Last year Georgia Skeen grew a 12ft 8in whopper at her grandparents’ home in Bendor Crossing near Wooler.
It was the tallest flower to be entered in the Gazette competition.
Georgia watered and nurtured the plant – which was more than twice her height – to keep it going.
If you or your children or grandchildren have grown their blooms they could be in with a chance of winning a prize.
The youngster who grows the biggest bloom will be given their prize – and a trophy – at the Alnwick in Bloom prize-giving at Alnwick Garden next month.
The winner will receive a £25 WHSmith voucher, second £15 and third £10.
Send your entries to Sunflower Competition, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, Northumberland NE66 1RG or email firstname.lastname@example.org by the end of the month.
