Derek Allan and nine-year-old Ellie trekked around Ladyburn Lake, at Druridge Bay Country Park, for 10 continuous hours last Tuesday. Each lap of the lake is 1.5-miles and the pair were joined by many well-wishers along the way, including Shaun Watts, who joined Derek and Ellie for the entire challenge.

The hike was in honour of Pete Kinsella, from Hadston, who passed away recently. Pete was due to take part in the walk, but died before the event, prompting the fund-raiser to be held in his name.

Around £300 was raised, to be split between the Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue Trust and the RNLI. Derek described the walk as amazing and he wants to make it an annual event. Pictured are Derek, Ellie and Shaun with some of Pete’s family and friends.
