Competitors are being encouraged to enter this year’s Alnwick strongman/woman contest, as well as the arm-wrestling challenge, which is new for 2018.
The events will take place on Friday, August 10, and are being run by Olly Dial, of the town’s Elite Fitness Super Gym, and Jonathan Park, from Alnwick’s Halifax branch.
Competitors in the strongman and strongwoman events will have to carry weights (125kg, men and 75kg, women) along Hotspur Street, between The Tanners Arms and The Fleece.
The strongman competition was revived last year after a decade-long absence – with the addition of a women’s contest for the first time – and attracted a competitive field and a large cheering crowd lining the street. It is hoped that the spectacle will once again prove popular.
And to add to the proceedings, organisers have this year got two arm-wrestling tables, open to male and female competitors.
Both events will take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. It is hoped that last-minute entrants can be accommodated on the night, but to guarantee your place, call Olly on 07484 871738 or contact him through Facebook.
