SPEEDING: Act now, before it is too late

I live in Swansfield and we have a 20mph restriction in our street, but you may as well read ‘see how fast you can go’ as it never seems to have been policed since being implemented.

Not all those guilty are young people, a good number are of an age where they should have more sense, and some are even using phones at speed.

On Wagonway Road, Victoria Crescent and past the Co-op, you take your life in your hands to cross the road.

We are not all as nimble as we used to be. I have seen some very close calls because of the ‘I will be first’ attitude at any cost. It’s the same on St James’.

We understand the police can’t be everywhere, but surely they can check known danger spots on a regular basis, especially at school times when there is a high risk.

Let us not wait for the accident to happen.

Surely motorists, nothing is so important that you would put your and others’ lives at risk? I stopped driving at the age of 75 for that very reason.

But may I say thank you to the motorists who stop or slow up to allow myself and others to cross the road – they are the knights of the road.
