The story of little Aidan Jackowiak Smith is a poignant one, both uplifting and heart-wrenching.
Despite all the many health problems Aidan has encountered in his short life so far, he remains a cheerful and loving lad.
His condition is so complex that medical experts cannot give him a specific diagnosis and he is undergoing various treatments and procedures, each of which are helping in a small way.
The recent removal of one of his tonsils has eased his breathing, for example.
And it is obvious from the pictures in this week’s Gazette that he has a strong, devoted family around him to help him through the numerous operations that will see him in and out of hospital for years to come.
Supporting them are friends and a committed community that has already raised substantial funds to help with travel and pieces of equipment to make Aidan’s life more comfortable.
We hope that by highlighting his tale, more money can be raised. Aidan is a special boy and he deserves all the support we can give him.
