Society seeking to find Sue's successor

The first Lifetime Achievement award went to Sue Burston, pictured with Lord Joicey and Frank Mansfield.

Following on from a tremendous response to the inaugural Glendale Agricultural Society (GAS) Lifetime Achievement Award, entries are now being encouraged for this year.

Last year, the award was presented to Sue Burston, in recognition of the outstanding role she has played within the Glendale community for more than30 years, and for her outstanding service to people from all walks of life.

Rachael Tait, GAS secretary, said: “We launched this award last year and were totally humbled by the entries we received, all were worthy recipients and all of last year’s nominations have been put forward for this year. The aim of this award is to thank someone on behalf of their local community for their work and commitment, and it has certainly been highlighted to us that Glendale has many unsung heroes.”

The society has also announced a posthumous award for Chris Leyland MBE, for his role in the opening and nurturing of the Bellview Resource Centre in Belford, and his role in managing the Chillingham Wild Cattle herd.
