Snow alerts for Northumberland '“ live updates on traffic and travel (Day Six)

9.15pm: Nunnykirk School will be closed tomorrow due to the access road to the school being unsafe and classrooms out of action due to water ingress. In addition, Borders Buses will not be running the following services tomorrow due to parts of the routes still being impassable due to snow: 267 – Berwick to Wooler via Duddo and Ford; 464 – Berwick to Wooler via Ancroft, Bowsden, Lowick and Duddo.

6.15pm: Here is the latest weather forecast for the North East from the Met Office. ‘This evening and tonight: A rather cloudy night, with outbreaks of rain and snow, along with mist and fog patches. However, snowfall will become increasingly restricted to the hills. Icy patches and a slight frost remains possible, especially around areas with snow cover. Minimum temperature -1°C. Monday: A dull, damp day, with mist and fog patches only slowly lifting, and rain or drizzle at times. It will still feel rather cold, with lying snow slowly starting to thaw. Maximum temperature 4°C. Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Less cold than recently, but often cloudy with rain and hill snow at times. Some brighter intervals will be likely between any showers. Overnight frosts and icy patches remain possible.’

2.30pm: Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the network that delivers power to 3.9 million homes and business across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, has been working to restore power to thousands of homes across its area since Friday affected by the bad weather. The company is reminding customers to use its online power cut reporter – www.northernpowergrid.com/power-cuts – where they can enter their postcode to get real-time updates and find advice about what to do in a power cut.

1.43pm: Northumbria Police tweet: We are experiencing high demand in our non-emergency calls at this afternoon. Please visit our website to find further information on alternative contact methods or details on other agencies that may be able to deal with your query.

1.15pm: An update from Northumberland County Council.Most B roads are open – one of the exceptions is the B6341 Hepple to Elsdon road, which is likely to remain closed for the next two days. With most town centres now clear, its teams are clearing main pedestrian routes away from the immediate centres.

1pm: The Household Waste Recovery Centre at Allendale is now open, but the centre at North Sunderland is still closed.

12.30pm: If you are travelling south of Northumberland, one lane of the A1 is closed due to a broken down vehicle at the Western Bypass southbound near A167 Stamfordham Road/B6324 Stamfordham Road (Westerhope turn off).

11.45am: We’ve received reports that freezing rain, rather than snow, is falling at the coast near Alnwick.

11.15am: An update from Northumbria Police, the B6354 from Felkington, near Berwick, southbound to the A697 remains closed.

10.30am: There were two call-outs for Holy Island Coastguard Rescue Team last night. It was tasked by the Coastguard Operations Centre Humber to help the North East Ambulance Service deal with a casualty with breathing difficulties on Holy Island. The team had just returned to station when members were retasked to proceed to Berwick-upon-Tweed to work with Berwick and Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Teams, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 912 to deal with a casualty on the beach near Berwick Holiday Camp.

10am: Virgin Trains East Coast and CrossCountry are running a normal Sunday timetable, but there are some alterations to some train journeys. Go to www.nationalrail.co.uk for specific service details.

9.03am: Whitehouse Farm, near Morpeth, tweeted: As the safety of our visitors is always paramount, we have taken the decision to remain closed on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th and hope to re-open on Wednesday, March 7, at the earliest.

8.30am: Highways England is advising drivers to continue to take care when driving as, even though the weather is improving, there are still some pockets of snow and ice in place on main roads across large parts of the county.

8.15am: Latest information on the county council rubbish tips: The following Household Waste Recovery Centres are open today so far: Alnwick, Bebside, Berwick, Morpeth, North Seaton, Hexham, Wooler, Haltwhistle, Prudhoe, Kirkley West Thorn (Ponteland). Currently CLOSED are: Allendale, North Sunderland.

8am: The latest from Northumberland County Council: All major A roads are now open and most B roads are now open. Due to the quantity of snow across the area drivers are asked to be cautious while using them as some roads narrow at points where the snow depth has been significant. For more information, click here
