SLIDESHOW: Royal family among the scary sights in Northumberland village

The future King and Queen, William and Kate were spotted in Acklington today.

And our very own member of the paparazzi, Jane Coltman, managed to take a shot of Prince George and Princess Charlotte without too much fuss.

After closer inspection, she discovered the happy family were in fact scarecrows, as were Scary Mary Berry, a Minion, a fiddler on the roof, a man-eating rubbish bin and various other characters who had invaded the village for the day to bring a smile to visitors’ faces and help raise funds for St John the Divine Parish Church.

A £1 map helped people around the trail, while a tombola, plants and bottle stalls, as well as coffees, snacks and homemade food all boosted the coffers.

The three most popular exhibits as voted by the public were:

1 Who Let the Dog Out, by Pam Coils and Val Sharp;

2 Blue Bin Bites Back, by John Davison;

3 Minion from Despicable Me, by Julia and Stan Cleghorn.

The organisers were delighted with the turnout of villagers and visitors to view the exhibits and the event made more than £700 for church funds.
