Children have spent the day dressed as their favourite characters to mark the 20th anniversary of the annual event, aimed at getting youngsters interested in books and reading.

Classrooms all over Northumberland have been full of Harry Potter, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins and the Cat in the Hat. One brave lad even donned a frock to go to school as The Boy in the Dress.
