John and Yoko, Mexican wrestlers and some Felicity Kendal fans all took to the River Aln on Saturday for Alnmouth’s annual fancy-dress raft race.
The eventual winners of the adult race were Old Men Sinking, while The All-Blacks took the junior title.
Other teams taking part included The All Stars, Love Not War, Disco Inferno, The Vikings, HMS Haggis, John and Yoko, The Felicity Kendal Appreciation Society, Lucha Libre and Mad Men.
This year’s races raised hundreds of pounds for the RNLI. While the exact total is notknown yet, it is thought to be more than £700.
If anyone wants to make a donation to the cause, they can drop it into the Sun Inn in Alnmouth.
Event organiser Bren Shell, landlord at the Sun, said that the event was a success once again this year.
“It went well,” he added. “We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather and there was a good turnout.”
The races first took place more than 40 years ago and have raised tens of thousands of pounds for the RNLI. One resident tells of taking part in the first one, aged 12, but not being allowed to share the prize, a crate of ale.
