Six wicket win for Alnmouth in opener

Alnmouth and Lesbury got their season off to a winning start when they beat Morpeth 1sts in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League.

SECOND-team cricket round-up.

Morpeth batted first, and with James Sander top-scoring on 22, they were all out for 75 with Nicholas Denton and Ben Oliover doing most of the damage, claiming four wickets apiece.

In reply Alnmouth went on to record a comfortable six wicket victory, posting 80-4, with Tom Vickers on 24, Russell Hughes on 22 and Paul Straker on 16.

The wickets were shared by Jack Elliott and Paul Concannon.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds faced Ashington 2nds, and they went down to a five wicket defeat.

Opener Peter Robinson hit 45 as Alnmouth made 138 all out, with Ian Sharkley and Michael Thewlis taking three wickets apiece.

In replay, Ashington posted 142-5 with the bulk of their runs coming from Jack McCarthy on 68 not out and Matthew Potts on 42.

Alnwick 1sts opened their league campaign with a narrow victory over Bedlington.

Alnwick posted 103 with the opposition falling just four runs short on 99.

The game between Alnwick 2nds and Leadgate 2nds was cancelled because of rain.
