It means that people will once again be able to use the Rothbury facility for £24 per month.

Coun Cath Homer, the Northumberland County Council cabinet member with responsibility for leisure, said: “Rothbury only offers limited facilities compared to some of our larger sports centres so to be consistent and fair, we have brought this membership into line with the other smaller facilities in the Active portfolio such as those in Hirst, Bedlington and Druridge.”

“We received quite a bit of feedback from local residents. We’ve listened to and understood their concerns and have reintroduced the single-site membership option for them.”

The Rothbury pool is available for a swim or lesson, an aquafit class or exclusive use for a swim party. There is also a modern gym with a range of new cardio equipment, changing facilities and a small, free car park.

An Active Northumberland multi-site membership option is still available for those who wish to take advantage of the facilities across the county. This membership gives access to 15 gyms, 10 swimming pools and more than 450 weekly fitness classes.
