SILL: Staggered by building costs

I recently visited the Sill development situated on Hadrian's Wall and found the building aesthetically pleasing, blending well with the local surroundings.

What caused me surprise was the cost of construction.

I read that a Heritage Lottery grant had been received for £7.8million and found this excessive, but to my shock this was only a proportion of the total cost of the project coming in at over £14.8million.

The building is unique with a number of construction challenges, but I would be very interested to learn how much it cost to construct in terms of square foot, and how does this compare with similar commercial projects?
