An individual’s initiative to guide tourists into Wooler must be largely fundedby traders as councillors have decided not to contribute, despite welcoming the idea.

They voted by a margin of one vote against financial support for a large sign listing local services, estimated to cost £1,500, to be placed near the A697 so drivers do not pass by, unaware of the town’s existence.

l The future of Wooler’s swimming pool at Glendale Middle School is to be discussed at a special meeting on January 14 at 7pm.

l Speed strips in Wooler’s South Road last month revealed traffic travelled at an average 34.8mph northbound and 35mph southbound. The results havebeen sent to Northumbria Police HQ, where it will be decided whether or not to send a speed camera van.
