Residents aged 65 years or over are now eligible to join up to Active Northumberland’s new Stay Active membership, which costs £26 per month on either a three-month flexible contract or a one-off annual fee of £312.

The membership includes unlimited access to gyms at 15 leisure centres, 450 weekly fitness classes and 10 swimming pools.

Members can choose to do any of the classes, but there are a full range of sessions suitable for seniors, including pilates, yoga, zumba, Active Life and Aquafit which are taught at a moderate pace.

Members can also use the gym facilities and receive a free, personalised induction and tailored exercise programme from one of the fully-trained fitness advisors. The swimming pools can be used at any time there is a public swimming session.

Active Northumberland is holding a series of Stay Active open-day events in October at sports centres throughout the county.

To find out more about the classes, people can call in and have a look around their local centre, speak to fully-trained instructors, ask any questions they may have and see a class in action.
