Shops and businesses in the centre of Alnwick are being encouraged to decorate their windows and frontages for the arrival of the Tour of Britain next month.
On Wednesday, September 9, the race will enter Northumberland from Scotland and travel through the likes of Wooler and Alnwick before heading to the stage finish at Blyth.
The following day’s stage also predominantly takes place in the county and the event will attract large crowds and national TV coverage.
The route through Alnwick on the Wednesday afternoon will be up the Peth then along Narrowgate, Bondgate Within, Bondgate Without and South Road.
To support the event, Alnwick Town Council, in partnership with the Alnwick Chamber of Trade, has decided to run a shop-window competition for retailers.
The competition is to dress your shop window in an appropriate way to reflect the Tour of Britain cycle race, which could be using the Northumberland colours of red and yellow, which are being used as the main colour theme in the county.
The first prize for the best window display will be £100 and two tickets to the VIP area at the finish line in Blyth, which have been donated by Northumberland County Council. There will also be two other cash prizes of £50 and £25.
Windows will be judged by the Deputy Mayor on Monday, September 7, and winners notified that day.
