A SHOCKED Alnwick trader has described the chaotic scenes after a car ploughed through the town’s Market Place, colliding with pedestrians and wiping out stalls.

The member of staff at The Lunchbox, next to where this afternoon’s incident happened, said she rushed to see what was going on after hearing a ‘loud bang’.

She said a lady was trapped and people were screaming, after the vehicle had smashed into a stall.

“I heard a noise,” she said. “I was inside the shop and I went to see what had happened. I saw this car crashed into a stall and there was a lady trapped under the stall and there were a couple of people on the ground.

“Everybody came running over and people tried to help. People were screaming and it was really chaotic.”

She said that three stalls had been wiped out and that the people who owned them ‘had lost everything’.

“Everyone was running past the shop to see what was going on,” he said.
