SHILBOTTLE CW 9

Shilbottle finally progressed to the quarter finals of the NFA Minor Cup with this comfortable victory in a tie that was switched to the Foxhunters Pavilion, Whitley Bay, having been continually postponed over the previous two months due to waterlogged pitches.

The Colliers opened brightly and took the lead after 15minutes when Liam Brooks set up Joe Henderson to shoot home. The lead was doubled five minutes later when Matty Graham scored from close range following a goalmouth scramble.

When Josh Hay forced home a cross from Liam Brooks on the half hour for Shilbottle’s third goal things were looking bleak for the Whitley Bay lads. Brooks made it four shortly after with a header into the top corner and when Hay headed home a Matty Graham corner just before the break the game was as good as over. Shilbottle led 5-0 at the interval and increased their lead on the hour when a good turn and powerful strike saw Josh Hay complete his hattrick.

Matty Graham then got goal number seven before Whitley Bay pulled a goal back through Aiden Lynn. Matty Graham slotted home a penalty to complete his hat-trick and Liam Brooks hit goal number nine, setting up a last eight clash with holders Newcastle University.
