A massive event to celebrate the Queen’s birthday in the summer is being organised, to bring the community together and help raise money for good causes.

Linda Gaines, of LG Events, is planning the extravaganza at the Shepherds Rest Caravan Park, in Alnwick, on Saturday, June 11, which will coincide with a weekend of national events to mark the Royal milestone.

The party, which will run from 1pm to 10pm, is set to feature live music from bands and solo artists, a DJ, beer tent, craft stalls, Slaters Funfair, a bouncy castle, face-painting, hog roast and barbecue. Proceeds from the tickets will go to Alnwick Round Table, Alnwick Lights Committee, Alnwick Lions and Alnwick International Music Festival.

Linda, who has planned and been involved in various events, including the major Olympic Torch Relay in 2012, said: “I thought this would be a great idea to bring the community together and raise money for good causes that do so much for our town.”

Linda, from Alnwick, ran a competition on Facebook to name this summer’s event. The winner was Mark Frater with the title Shepherds Fest.

Tickets will go on sale on Monday, priced £10 adults and £3 children. It is an all-ticket affair and there is limited availability. No alcohol can be brought on site and U16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets, which are being designed as part of a competition with Alnwick’s Duchess’s Community High School, can be purchased from The Shepherds Rest, The George Inn, Sun Vision and Mivesi – all in Alnwick – as well as from Linda by emailing

To donate raffle prizes, help provide a beer tent/outside toilets or to support the event in any way, email Linda. Craft-stall holders and music acts have agreed to take part, but more are welcome.
