Seven Days of Pride to celebrate equality

Organisers of Northumberland's first Pride festival have unveiled a week-long programme to celebrate equality and diversity in the county.

A busy build-up is being planned ahead of the main event at Alnwick Rugby Club on Saturday, June 2.

Seven Days of Pride will begin on Sunday, May 27, when the Northumberland Pride committee will be at Amble Puffin Festival and Durham Pride. The next day, Northumberland Pride will be at Northumberland County Show.

On May 29, there will be a LGBT (lesbian, gas, bisexual and transgender) church service at St James’s URC, Alnwick, from 7pm, all welcome.

The next day, the committee will be out and about around Northumberland.

On May 31, there will be a 5k fun run/walk at the rugby club, starting at 7.30pm. Fancy-dress is optional.

On Friday, June 1, Rainbow Kids will host a LGBT session at the New Riverside Lodge, Morpeth, at 1pm, before the venue will host a pre-Pride party. There will also be a pre-Pride party at The Elephant, Ashington. Both events start at 7pm and tickets, £10, are available from each venue.

On Saturday, June 2, a Northumberland Pride march will start from Alnwick Market Place at noon, before the main festival at the rugby club, from 1pm, with live music.

Alnwick’s Blue Bell Inn will host an after-party from 7pm.
