AN Amble venue could be crowned as serving the best Sunday lunch in Northumberland.
The Wellwood is in the running to take the title as part of a Sunday Lunch Campaign by www.yournorthumberland.co.uk
The High Street destination has been whittled down to one of the final four venues left in the competition and judges will now decide which one tickles the taste buds with its Sunday grub.
Head chef Richard Frankham, who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in his career, said he was not surprised that The Wellwood had done so well, saying staff ‘have always believed that our Sunday lunch is up there with the best’.
He added: “Sunday lunch is about quality and comfort and not trying to over-complicate things. I think our customers really appreciate that we serve Sunday lunch until 6pm too.”
The Sunday lunch recognition comes as part of a successful 12 months for The Wellwood, after it was named as a finalist in the prestigious Bar and Restaurant Design Awards, lining up against bars from London, Edinburgh and Birmingham.
It has also recently been short-listed for The Northumberland Business Awards along with sister restaurant Zecca.
