A Coquetdale self-run bus service has hit a major milestone of carrying 10,000 passengers since it began.
Spirit Buses, founded in 2013, is a locally-run company providing daily bus services from Rothbury and Upper Coquetdale into Alnwick and Morpeth.
The unique firm receives no funding and no subsidies for the services they provide and rely on donations from the public and bus fares to keep it running.
Founder Steve Hurst took to Facebook to say: “We’re proud to announce that earlier last month we achieved the milestone of our 10,000th passenger carried on our services.
“Covering 10,000 miles a month, our lifeline services have made a significant impact to the lives of residents, local businesses and tourism to Coquetdale and beyond. It’s very challenging operating in such a setting at times, but the amazing support from all has spurred us continually on.”
“With vitally important and continued increased usage, here’s to the next 10,000 and the ‘spirit’ continuing!
“Once again, many, many thanks for the ridership, messages and donations.”
Steve was given an Alnwick Mayor’s Civic Award for his work with Spirit Buses at last week’s ceremony.
