Senior League wins for Alnwick and Alnmouth

Alnwick batted first and lost the early wicket of Michael Brewis for only two (13-1), but fellow opener Andrew Scott hit 21, and with Max Harrison on 30, Ben Threfall on 26, Jamie Guy on 24 and Andrew Stewart on 20, they recovered to post 135-6 in 32 overs.

Bedlington then got off to a porr start to their innings, and at 23-4 were struggling.

Stefan Townsley was their top bat with 18, but they were all out for only 78 with Andrewe Scott taking 4-23 and Gareth Bateman 3-16.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 1sts had a 28-run win over Morpeth 1sts. Callum Batey hit nine boundaries on his way to 72 off 79 balls and with Paul Straker also hitting nine boundaries on his way to 52 off 60 balls,and Rich Neil weighing in with a useful 34, Alnmouth managed to put on 216-7 in their 40 overs.

James Craigs took 4-44 for Morpeth, who in reply saw James Sander hit 71 and Sam Flett 61.

At 174-5 they were in with a shout, but once Sander and Flett had gone the restb of the innings collapsed to 188 all out, with Edward Brunton taking 4-32 and Straker 3-45.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds were unable to match the winning form of the 1st XI when they went down to a 26-run defeat at the hands of Ashington 2nds.

Matthew Potts top scored with 21 as Ashington were all out for 108 in 33 overs.

Matisse Richards was the pick of the Alnmouth bowlers with 4-23.

In reply, Alnmouth lost eight bats who failed to reach double figures, with Oliver Tulip their top scorer on 20, and they were all out for only 82 with Alex Storey taking 4-16.

Alnwick 2nds travelled to Leadgate where they went down by six wickets.

M Haig was Alnwick’s top bat with 28, but the rest of the side failed to impress and they were all out for only 98 in less than 36 overs. In the main this was down to the form of Hayley Falia, who took a fine 5-15 with the ball.

Leadgate lost two early wickets, but they soon recovered to record a comfortable victory with Paul McCourt hitting an unbeaten 45 on the way to a total of 102-4 in 27 overs.
