Seahouses RNLI chairman dies after decades of service

The chairman at Seahouses lifeboat station, who first joined the crew in 1949, passed away yesterday at the age of 82.

A statement from Seahouses RNLI said: 'It is with sadness that we report the death of Mr John Hanvey (Senior), aged 82, the chairman of Seahouses RNLI Lifeboat Station Management Committee, on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

'John joined the crew in 1949 and has served in various roles until his death. He had been lifeboat crew, then deputy launch authority and Station Management Committee chairman. He was totally dedicated to the RNLI and to this lifeboat station, serving for an amazing 67 years.

'He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his wife Mary, son John (Seahouses' current RNLI coxswain/mechanic), wife Andreena, and grandchildren Fraser and Emily. No funeral arrangements have yet been made.'
