Seahouses lifeboat called to help man after Farnes fall

Seahouses all-weather lifeboat Grace Darling was called to Inner Farne yesterday afternoon to help the man who had fallen and injured his left hip and leg.

A member of the lifeboat crew who worked on one of the trip boats at the island had gone ashore to assess the injury and confirmed the need for the lifeboat.

The lifeboat landed a number of crew, trained as casualty care medics, with a stretcher and they immobilised the man so he could be moved, gave him pain relief and stretchered him on board.

It then made its way steadily back to Seahouses with the casualty, to minimise any discomfort caused by the motion of the boat.

The man, believed to be from the Ripon area of North Yorkshire, was then stretchered into the lifeboat station to wait for an ambulance, while being monitored by RNLI personnel. His wife had also been brought ashore aboard the lifeboat.

He was taken by ambulance to the Northumbria Hospital at Cramlington.

It was the lifeboat’s fourth call-out in four days.
