Seahouses and District Rotary Club

KONICHI-WA: Seahouses and District Rotary Club welcomed Sayaka Yoda from Yokohama with her host Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Whitley Bay to speak about her visit and she joined the club for supper at the Olde Ship.

She is one of four Ambassadorial Scholars sponsored by Rotary Foundation studying in the North East for a year and Sayaka is taking a Masters degree in city planning and regeneration at Newcastle University.

Nominated by Herdogaya Rotary Club in Yokohama where she qualified as an architect. She had not heard of Rotary until she applied for the scholarship but is learning a lot about it now and part of her remit is to speak to Rotary clubs of her experiences.

She spoke of her amazement at the friendly atmosphere of Newcastle nightlife and the multicultural environment of the University. No doubt her skills will be in great demand when she returns to Japan.

Members were able to talk with her over supper to round off a very pleasant evening.

Visitors are always welcome to Rotary meetings in the Olde Ship on Tuesday evenings.
