Scouts will be at market for fund-raising
Representatives from 1st Whittingham BP Scout Group will have a stall at Alnwick Market Place tomorrow, featuring an Easter-egg trail and hot snacks on sale.
Ninette Gray, Group Scout Master and organiser of the Uganda trip, said: “The community we will be visiting live in the heart of an ancient forest.

Hide Ad“The Scouts will be getting to know about the lives of the local children and working alongside them to plant indigenous trees and to install simple rainwater harvesting systems.
“It’s an area rich in wildlife with opportunities for trekking and canoeing.
“This will be an absolutely amazing adventure for the young people, leaving them with life-long memories, new skills and broader horizons.
“We have a big fund-raising target before we go and we will be so grateful for the support of market shoppers on Easter Saturday.”

Hide AdPrior to this, the first weekly Thursday market of 2016 starts today, while the monthly farmers’ market with fresh produce and gifts takes place tomorrow.
Markets manager Dawn Watts said: “It’s great news that the monthly farmers’ market coincides with Easter weekend and we are expecting more than 20 traders on Good Friday.
“Some people have been asking how the markets will work over Easter with all of the scaffolding and fencing around the Market Place.
“Northumberland County Council has kindly agreed that we may have use of the parking bays in Market Street on market days while work continues on the Northumberland Hall.”
