SCOUTS: Support for postal service

I am writing to ask for your readers' support for this year's 4th Morpeth Scouts Christmas Post Delivery Service

As well as providing an important public service and allowing young people from the age of six to 14 in the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to make a contribution to their local community, the Christmas Post campaign is our major fundraiser for the year.

Currently, we have one of the largest scout groups in the UK with around 90 Beavers, 90 Cubs and 90 Scouts in both Morpeth and Pegswood.

The money raised over the last few years has contributed to the building and furnishing of the extension to our Scout HQ.

Over the last 12 months ,we have organised many camping and hiking experiences as well as a host of other activities including shooting, archery, axe-throwing, sledging and coasteering.

We have delivered the Christmas post in Morpeth since the 1990s; collecting, sorting and delivering around 5,500 cards annually. We cover Morpeth town centre and surrounding estates, as well as Hepscott, Mitford, Pegswood and Fairmoor.

This year, the service will run from Saturday, December 1, through until Friday, December 21, at noon.

Cards must be fully addressed and should be posted, with a fee of 25p per card, in the collection boxes in Barclays Bank on Bridge Street, Morrisons, Sainsburys, the Co-op at Loansdean or the Co-op at Pegswood or the Health Hut at Kirkhill.

Wishing you all a merry Christmas.
