Scouts raise funds as thanks to rescue team

The £500 was raised by four Scouts who did a sponsored climb of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. They undertook the challenge to raise money for the team after being helped during the 2016 Operation Twilight.

One of the group injured their leg and was unable to continue. A phone app was used to confirm the group’s location as the southern side of Simonside, where the casualty was then stretchered 200m to a waiting Land Rover ambulance.

Operation Twilight is a massive, all-day game of hide and seek that takes place every October across the Northumberland countryside, with support from the mountain rescue team.

It involves more than 500 Scouts in groups of four to six being dropped off in a mystery location. The Scouts are then briefed on where they are and where they need to get to.

The aim of the game is to get to the target location within a 20-minute gap during the twilight hours without getting caught by a catching team made up of scouting leaders.
