There was a strong egg theme to the week which began with the arrival of an incubator and 10 eggs. Throughout the week, all 10 successfully hatched into beautiful chicks and pupils are watching them grow before they are rehomed next week. Eggs were also used in a series of weird and wonderful experiments in the classroom, including using heat to suck a boiled egg into a bottle and making bouncy balls by soaking eggs in vinegar.

As well as the experiments, pupils also got to take part in the School Food Showdown, an exciting demonstration and cooking competition designed to teach pupils to prepare a healthy, balanced meal in 15 minutes. Pupils and staff took part and cooked up some interesting new meals.

Following that, they all took part in forensic science run by the Education Group where they learnt all about DNA and fingerprinting; each class was presented with a variety of clues which they had to piece together to solve the kidnapping of a dog from a dog show. The final workshop involved a visit from Riggmoor Farm in Yorkshire, bringing a range of farm animals and teaching the children all about them. Pupils also got the opportunity to feed and hold the animals and also practised their milking skills on a simulator.

The week was organised by science teacher Lucy Cowell to help students engage with the subject. It was a huge success, enjoyed by pupils and staff alike.
