She said: “It has been a tremendous privilege to work at Hipsburn and I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to support so many children and to work with such committed and talented staff in such a vibrant and welcoming community.”

She said it was a difficult decision to make but wanted to spend more time with her grandchildren. “I hope eventually I’ll be able to collect my grandchildren from the school gate instead.”

Dot is pictured on her last day, with pupils, staff and new head Kevin Moloney.

A collection to mark her retirement has been held and funds raised will be used to create a learning pod in the grounds.
