This school year pupils in north Northumberland will benefit from almost £3.2million on top of the school budget thanks to the Pupil Premium.

In Alnwick, schools will receive almost £400,000, with the Duchess’s Community High School receiving £140,000.

Local Lib Dem campaigner Clare Mills, who is a parent governor at the Duchess’s, welcomed the extra investment. She said: “As a parent and school governor, I know our teachers are doing a great job and that this money will be well spent. Schools, not the Government, get to decide for themselves how to use their Pupil Premium money to help the children who need it most.

“I’m glad that Alnwick will be getting such a large amount of extra money for our schools. That money will make a really big difference to the life chances of a lot of children growing up in the town.”
