AN Amble school is aiming to raise much-needed funds after signing on to an online shopping scheme.
James Calvert Spence College (JCSC) has joined TheGivingMachine in a bid to raise income to support the school’s education and develop facilities.
TheGivingMachine is a not-for-profit fund-raising website which enables shoppers to give cash donations to UK schools and charities, for free.
It taps into the multi-billion pound online retail market by providing a website for people to buy from over 300 leading retailers.
Every time they shop via TheGivingMachine, a percentage of the sale is turned into a donation on behalf of the shopper and given to their chosen cause.
The scheme, launched nationally in 2007, is already raising regular income for more than 3,000 charities and schools across the UK.
Executive headteacher Christine Graham said: “The college is constantly in need of extra funds and this is even more important under the current financial climate.
“TheGivingMachine can provide us with another source of income, without any cost to our supporters.
“It is not often we get anything for free. We are all now doing so much shopping online.
“If just 100 of our supporters shopped via TheGivingMachine, we could raise well over £1,000 a year extra.”
