Gail Roper, centre, and pupils from the school present their donation to Catherine Johnstone, right, from the Alnwick oncology unit, and Anne Fletcher, left, Macmillan volunteer on the unit.

The school carried out a range of fund-raising activities, including washing staff cars, holding cake stalls and collecting donations in lieu of Christmas cards, for the oncology day unit at Alnwick Infirmary.

Mandy Dobson, from the school, said: “We choose a local charity every year and as we know lots of families who’ve used this service we wanted to support it.

“It makes such a difference to people to be able to have treatment on their doorstep rather than having to travel out of the area.”
