Restoration works on the iconic Lindisfarne Castle are now under way.
The Grade I-listed building, on Holy Island, is closed until April 2018 for a £3million conservation project.
The extensive works will address penetrating damp issues and restore the stonework, pointing and windows.
The scaffolding that has been put up is already an impressive sight, but from Monday, March 20, work is due to start on a temporary roof on the scaffold, allowing repairs to the castle roof.
Despite the castle closure, the Gertrude Jekyll Garden, the Lime Kilns and the shop remain open. Visit the National Trust website for more details and opening information.
