Satellites keep an eye on cattle

Native cattle grazing the slopes of Cheviot are going digital this summer.

Some will be wearing collars with a specially-designed global posititioning system to track their movements via satellite.

The project is a major piece of agricultural research by Newcastle University to find out why cattle travel where they do and how this affects the nationally-important plants and wildlife of the Cheviot Site of Special Scientific Interest.
