Sales and demolition lined up for Northumberland schools

In the Alnwick Partnership, where the four middle schools – three in Alnwick and one in Seahouses – are to close in the summer, the local authority is responsible for three of the sites as St Paul’s is the Catholic diocese’s responsibility.

The entire Lindisfarne Middle School site is set to be demolished in the summer.

A council spokesman said: “We are currently working with the adult learning service and the groups that use the sports hall to find suitable alternative accommodation for them.

“Options for future uses are being considered.”

​The lease for the Duke’s Middle School has been terminated to end on August 31 and the building will revert to Northumberland Estates​.

In Seahouses, the new primary school will take over the middle-school site, leaving the first-school site vacant.

A council spokesman simply said that ‘options are being considered for the future of the site once the school closes’. ​

Outside the Alnwick Partnership, Wooler First School moved to join Glendale Middle School on the Brewery Road site in September 2015.

The first-school site has been marketed and the county council is now working with a preferred bidder​.
