Twenty five members and one guest attended the October meeting of Roddam WI at the Cheviot Centre, Wooler, when our president, Janet, extended a warm welcome to all.
The minutes of the September meeting were read, agreed and signed, then we heard an account of the outing to Yarnfest at Skipton which had been the Group event for this year and had been a great day out.
Thanks to Janet for making all the arrangements.
Our craft group Knit and Natter has been awarded a prize of junior-size knitting needles and balls of wool.
There was some discussion as to whether we could use them to teach knitting at school – if there is space available in their timetable.
Our darts team had played at Shilbottle during the month and won the team game, but, unfortunately did not win through to the next round.
However, the ladies always enjoy participating and, no doubt, will try again next year.
There was some regular business from Cresswell House which was dealt with and we have had an invitation from Belford WI to join them for their birthday celebrations later this month.
Our speakers, Mr and Mrs Gilbert, then took us on a journey of exploration to Nepal, which was a kaleidoscope of sounds and images, vibrant colours, local festivals, native flora and fauna, the spectacular Himalayas and most important of all, the Nepalese people with their reputation for hospitality and friendship. And we frolicked with an elephant at bath-time.
The competition was for a holiday photograph and was won by Veronica Presland with Marion Sinton second and Mary Mathewson (J) third.
Next month we have a Christmas crafts evening with our members Jenny and Linda showing us how, so don’t forget to bring sewing needles and scissors.
We ended the evening with supper and the raffle.
