Roddam WI, January meeting

MEMBERS’ NIGHT: Roddam WI held their members’ night in the Cheviot Centre, Wooler, when the president Mrs J Laycock welcomed everyone and wished us all a happy New Year.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed.

The December meeting was cancelled due to the weather and is to be held in February instead.

A letter had been received from Mrs Sharp thanking members for their contributions to the Shoe Box appeal, 210 boxes had been sent from the Glendale area.

The Christmas dinner held in the Wheatsheaf, Wooler, had been excellent.

The carol service at Hexham Abbey had also been greatly enjoyed.

It was agreed to write to Taylor’s Tea of Harrogate to extend our thanks for the support they have shown to WIs throughout the country, 20 years of unfailing support had now come to an end. Their support has been very much appreciated.

A petition from Oxfam was signed. The WI and Oxfam believe it is a global scandal that so many mothers are dying in poor countries. World leaders have failed to tackle the problem.

The spring council meeting is to be held in Hexham. Ideas were put forward for the new programme.

The craft class held on a Tuesday was now to be held for a short time in the Garden Centre, Wooler.

Pies, peas and puds followed and the meeting concluded with the raffle.
