Road closed next week as gasworks make good progress
Earlier this month, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) started work to replace 250 metres of ageing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. Work has been taking place on Bondgate Within, moving gradually towards Narrowgate, with both roads fully open to motorists and pedestrians during this first phase.
But from Monday (January 25), Narrowgate, down to the Fenkle Street junction, will be closed to traffic. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and shops and businesses will remain open for business as usual.

Hide AdAndrew Rodda, NGN site manager, said: "Our essential gas mains replacement work in Alnwick is progressing ahead of schedule and we are on track to move out of Narrowgate ahead of the Easter period.
"In order to carry out our essential replacement work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to put a road closure in place on Narrowgate to the junction of Fenkle Street from Monday, January 25, a week earlier than originally planned.
"We have made the decision to close the road earlier than planned after concerns over vehicles parking close to our work which is restricting the view for other motorists.
"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carry out this essential work."
