A ROAD will be closed in Wooler while bridge strengthening work takes place.
Work to strengthen the bridge on Burnhouse Road, beside Highburn House caravan site, is to go ahead this winter.
An earlier structural assessment of the bridge showed that the existing deck is no longer capable of carrying the traffic on this road.
The existing concrete and steel deck is to be removed and replaced by a reinforced concrete deck.
It is planned that the works will start the week commencing Monday, October 31 and be completed by the end of January next year.
Regrettably, it will be necessary to close the road between Wooler and Low Humbleton during this work.
The timing of the works has been arranged so that access to and from the adjacent caravan site will be maintained. This will inevitably cause some inconvenience to people who use the road to access the local properties, however, full access is still available to each end of the C50 road.
A diversion route will be signed using Ryecroft Way and Cottage Road (A697).
