The following week, on Friday, September 9, Alnwick’s answer to the Bath Pump Room Trio – the Playhouse Palm Court Duo will be entertaining visitors during the morning.

Local fiddler Bryan Jackson will be joined on this occasion by Alan Edwards, ex-violinist from the Royal Opera House orchestra, to play a wide-ranging selection of music, from folk to swing to light classical favourites.

At the coffee morning in the upstairs bar, which runs from 10am to noon, every cup bought helps fund north Northumberland’s lifeboat crews to do their life-saving work.

While the recent fund-raising for the new Shannon lifeboat at Amble is very important, the crews at Amble, Craster and Seahouses all need equipping with helmets, pagers and life-jackets that need constant replacement.

The coffee morning, which raises around £1,000 each year, goes a little way to help fund these vital items.
