Return visit for top pianist

An internationally renowned pianist is making a return visit to Alnwick next week.

Angela Hewitt will be performing at the town’s Playhouse on Tuesday, November 15, as part of the Alnwick Music Society programme.

Angela entered the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto in 1964 and gave her first recital there at the age of nine. She graduated from the University of Ottawa and quickly gained recognition in Canada and the USA, winning prestigious competitions.

Her vast repertory includes music from Bach to Messiaen; she has done two complete recital cycles of the piano music of Ravel and devoted entire single-composer programmes to Brahms, Faure, Chopin, Schumann and Beethoven.

Angela’s programme for Alnwick begins with a selection of Scarlatti Keyboard Sonatas followed by Mozart’s Piano Sonata in B flat major. After the interval she will play two Beethoven Sonatas; the first in D minor, opus 31 n. 2 ‘The Tempest’, the second in E flat major, opus 27 no 1 ‘Quasi una Fantasia’.
